Off the Beaten track in a 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Having just returned from Mallorca, I thought I should tell you about a true beast of a machine-The 2007 Jeep Wrangler!

I wanted to hire one of these whilst away because I liked the idea of being able to get off the beaten track and explore some of mainland Mallorca. This time was the 4th time I have been there so I thought we could take some time out and do some exploring of the treasures the island has to offer. To be honest I was expecting and older Jeep that would do the job of getting up the hills and crunching along the dusty terrain. little did I know that the car hire company was going to provide us with a brand new one that had less than 400 miles on! The smell of the brand new interior didn’t last long as we got the top down and set off on the open road.

We headed off to Manacor on a Sunday first thing in the morning as the sun had just risen and the day was fresh. All around were fields with traditional farmhouses and windmills in true Mallorcan fashion. It didn’t take long to get used the reverse…everything, steering wheel, roundabouts, roads, gearstick, 4wd and so on but once it was mastered Rachel did a great job of navigating and got around fairly easy.

The drive on the new Jeep Wrangler is incredibly light for such a beast of a machine. I had it mostly in Trip A mode and so the steering was light and responsive. Although the clutch was heavy throughout the gears were accurate and handling was straight forward- especially down those single track roads and traditional Spanish back streets. Colour wise the silver version was what we got and was a bit of a head turner I have to say while traveling to the towns. The size of the new Wrangler is substantially taller and chunkier than then the more recent models. I know Jeep had lots of criticism for having their wheels too small. This however is chunky to say the least and gives a tall driving position plus larger wheels then anything the Jeep wrangler has had to date.

No matter where we took it there was a sense that it could perform anywhere and was great fun to drive.

Life on the move with a Canon DV Cam

Recently I just invested in a Canon MV901 Dv Cam to have a play with. As a photographer its still image that i’m most interested in and so video is just not quite as useful. Feelings would still be the same way if it wasn’t for the ability to shoot and export to iMovie on […]

I can see why Jesus was a carpenter.

Recently I completed a project in the garage to make a wood working bench. After cleaning Rachel’s fathers garage out I came upon a huge pile of wood that had been collected over some time. I used a Bosh power planer to strip back all the wood in an attempt to reclaim it and put […]

Sex God by Rob Bell

Recently I have been reading a thought provoking book by Rob Bell, the Author of “Velvet Elvis”. With this new book he attempts to explore the connection between sexuality and spirituality discussing some of the values and challenges that we face in a modern age. It’s always good to read a book that is challenging […]

My Engagement Ring

Its great to now be wearing the ring that Rachel bought me for our engagement on new years eve.
This has just arrived from the Jewelers after being specially made by TI2. If you remember anything from those chemistry lessons at school, you’ll know that TI2 stands for Titanium which is what it is is made […]

It’s 2-am and I’m wide awake in bed. Its hot tonight and im thinking about the series of images I have been working on today. The one thing they all have in common is that they were captured on a recent trip to Belgium. Ok, I Know its not that recent but it feels quite […]

Air at the Academy

Last night Rachel, Jenny, Dave and myself had a great night out at the Manchester Academy again. This time we travelled from Leeds to see Air play on their Pocket Symphony tour. After some food at the KRO bar opposite and drinks all round we headed over to the venue for […]

We’re getting Married!

One of the happiest events my entire life happened on New Years Eve, I asked Rachel if she would marry me! Without a doubt I have to say it was one of the proudest too as we stood there gazing at each other after promising ourselves to one another for the rest of our lives…
For […]

Fitness Challenge Completed

Ah the relief! Yesterday I am happy to say that I completed the Mark Webber extreme fitness challenge that I wrote about in my last post. All 60Km are now nicely under the belt but certainly not around the belly.
The final stage was kept simple as I didn’t want to outface myself on the last […]
